Backdrop

Well, a fresh blog for a new stage in life!

Though, I must admit, this is three months later than I had first intended to start it. There’s a few topics I intend to cover in the next few days, but until then let me give a brief introduction into just what this is all about!

From New Jersey (birth—>high school) to Michigan (university) to Taiwan (post-graduation), I’ve constantly been traveling west. 2006 was my first ever trip abroad, for a 6-week stay in Taiwan. I loved it and determined I would come back. In 2008, after graduating from university, I did. At the time, I had only planned to stay in Taiwan for, at most, a year to get my Chinese in line then come back to the U.S. for graduate school.

Things turned out very different and it is now, in 2010, that I am starting graduate school in Chinese Literature in Taiwan. A lot has lead me here since 2008, financial decisions, getting into the lifestyle here, and the unexpected admittance to one of the top schools in the country (also the rejection from every U.S. graduate school I applied to did help to force my hand in the decision as well).

So, this is where I am. 2010: two months into my first year of graduate school in Chinese Literature and about to pass my 26th birthday.

I want to try and record more of my own thoughts, feelings, and day to day life. What I’m studying, progress in my work, etc. It may be a bit mundane and tedious to read, but life is like this, right? Granted, this is mostly for myself anyway, but if you do enjoy reading then, that’s good, too!

Also, I write about my experiences and ideas in language studying (with emphasis on Chinese, of course) at the similarly (read: exactly) blog over here. If you’re interested, feel free to give it a look!
